"Is it really that time again?" Hello, everyone! Today I am pleased to finally announce the release date of our upcoming Half-Life 2 RP server, Rising Dawn. The server will be publicly released and accessible on Friday, November 22nd, 2019, around 7 PM Central Standard Time. On the 20th of November (This coming Wednesday) we will open the server for a limited time at which point we will hold an open playtest for everyone to join at a time to be announced! I hope everyone is as excited as we are, but to those who are unaware of what this server is, I will explain down below our setting and features. Server Setting: "Let me begin by stating the obvious: We are at war here." - Excerpt from the Combine Overlord's first public speech. The server itself will start in the Japanese outskirts of City 8, in the year 2033, twelve years after the Global Uprising, and ten years after the start of the War with No End. Though broken, and only a fraction of what it once was before the Uprising, the Combine are still a force to be reckoned with, and have held their ground against Resistance forces. With the Overlord having taken Breen's place as the figurehead of the occupation, all hope for a free Earth has been diminished significantly. Knowing this, the Combine have once again begun allowing refugees into their remaining Cities. You start as a refugee, one of many who plan on returning to the City after ten years of unending warfare. Who you are, where you came from, and what you intend to do once you're in the City is entirely up to you. You can live your life as an independent Citizen, become a part of the criminal underworld, join a secretive rebel cell, or enlist in the Combine Civil Authority. Live as you see fit, but know that your actions will invariably have unforeseen consequences. Server Features: Combine Redesign The Combine Civil Authority, as well as the Combine as a whole, have been completely redesigned, and will feature an updated ranking structure, new loadouts and gear, and new models. Meanwhile, the Combine Overwatch Transhuman Arm, or COTA for short, have been intertwined with the Combine Special Operations Division, or CSAD for short. You may remember them as the main playable faction during the Combine campaign of the Out of Time event series. Though they will mostly be utilized during events, this will allow those characters to do more in-depth roleplay. Story Phases As the server progresses and the players take action in our world, so too will the story of the server progress. The factions will wage war on each other, creating operations and events naturally. As the story progresses, so too will the location of the server. You will walk the neon streets of City 8, tiptoe around the bustling cultural center City 12, survive the lost City 18 that has become a playground for anarchists, embrace the propaganda machine of City 24, and face outward locales such as the American Deadlands and even other locations that are simply out of this world. The world is yours to determine and explore! Player-Based Groups In order to promote a more integrated experience to those who want to organize player-based groups within our server, we will be creating a process in which players can apply for their groups to be officially recognized in the server, and said groups will be rewarded with a limited supply of starting equipment, and then can begin accepting applications over our forums. They will also have a discord tag made for their group. Weapon Balance In order to make roleplay more convenient during gunfights, while also still allowing fun to be had, we've decreased the damage on each weapon, and fixed some of the more pressing issues with them. All weapons now have a place in a fight! Oddity System Though not completely implemented at the time of this announcement being written, the Oddity System from previous iterations is being re-added. This will eventually allow for things such as learning languages, synthetic augmentations, illnesses and diseases, and much more to be added. Detailed HUD and Contextual Menu Though many of us are used to the old-fashioned vanilla HUD system, we have implemented a more in-depth HUD system that will make things more clear to the player. This will also go hand-in-hand with the contextual menu changes, which will allow you to see the exact percentages of your status bars. Factory, Recycling, Looting, Crafting, Cooking, and more... will also be updated and added!
