    I.

The distant howls of settling metal was the leverage that pried his eyelids open, but it was not what had woke him. The rumbling echo tore him from what seemed like the slumber of a thousand years. To his own confusion, Liupold could not decipher from whether his eyes were indeed truly open. He could feel his body, yet it would not move. He felt his eyes dart across the darkness but could not find the conclusion to his lack of vision. The fear of blindness crept over him for a moment, until the faintest glow of light could be seen past his feet. What looked like the illumination only the sun could cast outlined a cracked sliver from inside his capsule— whatever lied beyond could not be perceived. All he knew was that it was the outside- his source of air, and his salvation should he escape the confines that which he found himself in presently. An abyss blotted his memory like ink spilt atop an already finished canvas; There were a hundred questions and more spinning around Liupold's head like a dense matrix of queries unattended to, but they would have to wait until he could escape his current situation. It was incredibly hot, like being left in a car with just the window cracked. He needed to get out.

He still could not move his arms nor legs, however, and it was an immediate dilemma should he want to consider escaping the impromptu sarcophagus. Rather, he could shift slightly in place, but drastic movements were restricted by unseen bindings that nearly mummified him from the neck down. However, inside the pod it was clear that whatever was holding him in binding was dangling from the top of said pod's interior. With much effort, he began to rock himself back and forth by pushing his feet off from the front of the pod, ramming the bottom of the metal restrains against the inside of the shell he resided in. Like a pendulum he swung, and after several attempts the casing gave way. His bound body dangled from out of the busted pod. The transport he resided in carried much like it, as if a hanging catacomb of metal. A morbid smell reached his nose and his face furrowed in disgust. With little effort, he was able to pry open the restraints and fall onto the far side of the transport, which was half on its side. He thumped against one of the other pods, still clamped shut. He came to a stand, or as close as he could to one as the pivot of the transport did not welcome the traversing of personnel in this state. He directed his eyes to the light, illuminating particles of dust in the midst of its casting. Sand resided at the bottom of the opening, which looked to have caved in. He maneuvered himself to its maw, and lifted himself out.

The immense light initially blinded him, and his arm braced his eyes to spare them from the painful, sudden exposure to such brightness. His eyes settled, his pupils dwarfed themselves as he began to take in his surroundings.

As far as the eye could see, dunes covered the landscape in beiges; warm yellows reflecting the sun's large glare. The heat that plagued him in the wreckage only worsened as he became exposed to the afternoon's merciless high temperatures. Only faint winds graced him with the traces of cool he craved in this dry biome. The hills of sand spanned out for miles no signs of life. No signs of vegetation. Nothing. This was the world he was sent to die on, as punishment for his crimes. His memory failed him as to how and why, but he knew who, or whom; the inscription beneath his feet was unmistakably recognizable. It unearthed terrible memories in his brain. Things he wished he would have forgotten in the wreck. It branded itself into his memory. His eyes burned when he looked at it, even more so than when he glanced unknowingly at the sun when he first emerged. It left him only questioning how he could have forgotten.

A little episodic story for you guys. I'll be updating it as days go on, and exploring a little unique idea I had in mind to expand upon one of the less elaborated upon topics.

I hope you enjoy, and I hope you guys stick around to see its end. :)
