Alice Perkins x Clancy Valentine Chapter 1 Alice made her way out onto the fire escape using an open window. She was off to deal with a job, specifically tailing an alleged gang member. It was paying well, with a hundred credits a day, plus any expenses. Her client was either rich, or wanted something done badly. Alice hadn't seen much of them, though that wasn't saying much about her safety. Anyone who had the need to kill her would usually just send someone to do it. Not that they were ever much good at that. Her man walked briskly by the alley Alice was standing in, giving her the signal to pursue. She gave him five seconds, then filed out. The air was painfully cold. Anything that was exposed would be frozen in seconds. Alice hitched up her coat, still careful to follow the man, so as to avoid any of her precious body heat escaping. The man turned into the district that contained most of the warehouses. No, gang hideouts, Alice corrected herself, and it was true. The gangs always took to these areas, filled with hiding holes to prevent any prying eyes away from their illegal actions. Alice looked around. To her immediate left was a Union designated warehouse. The one the gangs weren't allowed to touch. To her right and front were the sketchy false-front warehouses. If she didn't know any better, the poorly built facade would have fooled her. But she did know better, and she knew this man wasn't doing a good thing. Alice followed him, careful to stick to the shadows until she saw that he entered one of the buildings. She counted to ten before entering the building which, to her surprise, wasn't locked. Once inside, the temperature increased. Though it was incredibly stuffy. Alice found a ladder leading up to a catwalk. She climbed up, careful to avoid a broken rung, and crouched down once she was above a group of men. Alice began creeping along the catwalk so as to avoid making too much noise. This continued until she spotted the figure. It was clearly male, as Alice could see by his build. But what was some guy in a trenchcoat doing here? She ran through the possibilities in her head. A guard? No, they didn't have any need. Rebel? More likely, as vigilantism seemed to have grown in popularity over the past months. She took her steps lighter, approaching him slowly from behind. She planned to take him out quietly so she could continue her job. It wouldn't be too difficult. The men below were still conversing, saying something about cars. As she got up right behind him, she noticed just who it was. Well, after he turned around. Clancy Valentine Junior drew a revolver from his coat, but wasn't fast enough for Alice. She threw herself on top of him, causing Clancy to lose his grip. The revolver slid over the side of the catwalk, leaving Clancy defenseless. Alice kneeled on his chest, her face livid with anger. She had her hands clasped around his throat, threatening to choke him out. "This is my job, Valentine! Why the hell are you here?" She demanded. Clancy clawed at his throat, prompting Alice to release him so he could speak. It was a mistake, though, as he tackled her now, assuming a similar position to hers. He massaged his neck before speaking. "Official Dawn business. I wasn't told the kiddies would be allowed within a ten mile range of here." He mocked. Alice was pinned under his weight, unable to move. She thought about calling him a whale, though that didn't seem helpful. She opened her mouth to speak when the first bullet hit the metal.
